Due to the Assassination, the Authorities and the Villagers are Fear to Talk about the Referendum and Building the Polling-Booth.

On 4th/May/ 2008 Relate to USDA secretary U Sai Kyaw Myint was assassination during they went and organized for poll campaign with his associates, villagers are afraid to talk about this events and local authorities are afraid to prepare for polling booth.

The local resident said “Before the assassination, they prepared to build the polling booth and there will be 3 authorities to come on the day of 6th May, but when there was assassination they postpone it to 9th May and there will be 6 of authorities to come to prepare for the polling booth. And villagers are afraid and do not dear to talk too much about the referendum as before and they think that if they are talking about this they will be prosecute or killed”.
“The other groups of village will have to come and vote in (xxx) village. And I am wondering that will we be able to giving vote secretly. And the authorities said that personnel have to give the vote separately from the public. There are 7 quarters in our village and we heard that they will build the polling booth at quarter (4) in the public rest-house and there are 3 kinds of poll but we haven’t see these until now.” Explain by a villager from (xxx) village.
When a secretary of (Ma Wa Ta), a representative of (La Wa Ka) and a representative of (Na Wa Ta) came and brought the polling box to (xxx) village, they threatened the Chief of villager/ secretary and parson who have responsibility at the pooling booth that if there are a lot of “Vote no” (×) poll, you will be punish.
