Local People Kill by Military Force Labor

Three residents of around the Shweli Hydro power dam site has been killed by crossing the river for the work of the military IB 144 which based at Man Htat village, Namkham.
The military base no. 144 at the village who’s controlling and escorting the dam site, forced 4 of the local people from the village around the site for cutting the wood for the military use on 29 April, 2008.
They had to cross the Shweli River to cut and carry the woods for the military use, when they came back crossing the river, 3 of them were sunk in the river and died but only one of them was alive.
The laborers were Palaung and Kachin nationality, were said they would be compensated 500,000 Kyat and 5 sacks of rice. But one of them was Palaung, haven’t received the compensate from the military and others had received and satisfied with the compensated.
